Revisiting childhood memories in Mahableshwar

Living in the cluster of city life, especially a crowded city like Mumbai often led my parents to take us for quick weekend breaks just outside of Mumbai to get some fresh air and peace of mind. Mahableshwar, an antiquated and simple place was one of our frequent spots. The drive up to Mahableshwar is a scenic one, especially at the end of monsoon season where nature is full of life. Oh, and that delicious vada pav with chutney for breakfast on our drive to the destination.

Located about 260 kms from the city, Mahableshwar is a comfortable 5-hour drive. Ever since my first visit to Mahableshwar up to now, I’ve stayed at the Brightland Resort at least ten to twelve times. This time when I was going back to Mahableswar with my family after a gap of six years, my choice of stay was obvious. Even after the six years, all the memories started to come back the moment I entered the resort reception. The traditional wooden finished furniture, the reception opening up to the patio with a gorgeous view of the Sahyadari mountains overlooking the pool, the woodfire area and the open tandoor grill and my favourite spot, the bonfire.

We lodged in the revamped Orchid wing of the resort, the rooms of which opened up into a personal balcony on a lawn. The rooms at Brightland across categories are pretty spacious and they have multiple room options to fit everyone’s needs. We spent the first day at the property and I relished all my childhood favourites from the menu. The weather was perfect for some hot chocolate. Light showers and breezy winds always call for a cup of cocoa and a side of french toast. I also ate the Brightland classic, a woodfire oven pizza from their multi-cuisine restaurant, Olive Garden. This restaurant has some really good Italian food and they use super fresh, locally sourced ingredients to make everything from scratch.

On day two, we decided to explore places in Mahableshwar around the property. The Echo point is a five-minute drive from the Brightland resort. I ate some fresh corn on cob with loads of masala along with some popcorn. After roaming around the market, the lake and some pretty gardens we came back to the property for their evening sessions. They have a lot of events around the evening time for kids, adults and families as a whole. They also have a good selection of books and loads of indoor games that are accessible to guests all day.

On our last day at the property, we enjoyed their breakfast buffet and took a quick tour of the vast property. I also availed the services at the Prana Spa, the in-house spa at the resort. I availed the full body 60-minute aroma therapy massage at the spa. Apart from the calming ambiance and spacious massage rooms, the quality of the essential oils and skill of the masseuse were the highlight of the experience. Mahableshwar has always been a home away from home for me and the hospitality offered at Brightland resort always completes my experience.
