Nutella Sea Salt Brownie Cookies

Serves: 8-10 cookies Cooking Time: 40 minutes


  • 1 cup of all purpose flour(maida)
  • 1/4th cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3rd cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3rd cup melted dark chocolate (melted in a microwave or over a double boiler)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3rd cup castor sugar
  • 1/4th cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons of nutella
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1/3rd cup chocolate chips/chopped chocolate (optional)



Keeping the rack in the middle section, preheat your oven to 190 C


Start by adding all the dry ingredients to a bowl, mix the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda and set the bowl aside


Add the butter to a pot and melt it on a medium-high heat stirring regularly


Brown the butter, let it cook till you get a nutty aroma and brown specs in the butter mixture


Add the brown butter to the melted chocolate and mix well


In a separate bowl mix the two sugars and the vanilla, add the eggs one at a time and whisk well for 5 minutes


Once the chocolate+butter mixture cools down a bit, mix it in slowly with the egg mixture (the chocolate mixture should be warm not hot)


Once all the liquids are incorporated, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and fold the mixture


Add the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate and fold the mixture (the batter will be like a thick but runny brownie batter)


Using an ice cream scoop or a spoon immediately scoop the mixtures onto a prepared baking tray lined with parchment paper (golf ball sized dollop)


Add a dollop of nutella to each cookie (one teaspoon on each cookie)


Bake immediately in the oven for 10-12 minutes, it need not be cooked all the way through (baking immediately is important to get the crinkle texture on the top)


Sprinkle the cookies with sea salt, let them cool for 5 minutes and enjoy with a cold glass of milk!
